BARWON HEADS GOLF CLUB – BELLARINE PENINSULA, VICTORIA

Piranha Golf - Barwon heads

The quaint little differences – and outstanding links course – make Barwon Heads one of the most appealing regional layouts in Australia.

Barwon Heads is as much about the yesteryear experiences as the game itself. The course is exceptionally good – thoroughly deserving of its place among the leading 20 of Golf Australia’s Top-100 Courses ranking – but so is the days-gone-by ambience of the heritage-listed clubhouse and surrounds, its history and memorabilia and the delightful old-school practices. Barwon Heads is a reminder of all golf’s best assets.

Barwon Heads’ five short holes are all gems; however few in golf are as ingenious as the 13th hole. This downhill par-3 is proof that a hole can measure as little as 130 metres and be without a hazard yet remain a handful to play. It is a magnificent hole, primarily because of its vista and intrinsic, perplexing simplicity. It features in Golf Australia’s Bucket List of 25 Australian Golf Holes you need to play before you die.

Your golf needn’t end at the 18th. Adjoining the main course is a fantastically fun nine-hole par-3 course that is a must to play. It is particularly popular with house guests, who enjoy free access. There is also a new short-game practice area. Expansive chipping areas and bunkers surround a large, two-tiered green with multiple cups. For member and house-guest use only, it is an exceptional facility on which to hone the short shots required to tackle the golf course.

The clubhouse’s 19-room accommodation wing completes the picture, allowing guests to appreciate the full Barwon Heads experience by staying and dining on-site. House guests enjoy guaranteed tee-times between 8:30 and 9:30 most mornings, and are entitled to a round of golf for each night’s stay. Repeat patronage is high – especially groups – as golfers return again and again to soak up the whole experience of top-class golf, great food and accommodation to match.

Barwon Heads offers a complete golf getaway. With three forms of golf to play plus dining and accommodation on-site, there’s really no reason to leave until the real world calls you back.

Two-Three night packages:

We have a very good relationship with our neighbours at 13th beach Golf Links who have two 18 hole courses. One of these, the Beach Course is (like the Barwon Heads Golf Club), rated in the top 10 of Australia’s public access courses. (Golf Australia magazine). Staying two nights gives visitors the chance to play two of Australia’s top 10 public access courses during the one visit. The Bellarine Peninsula is also a nice area to visit (food, wine, beaches) and is a good point to start a trip down Victoria’s famed Great Ocean Road.

All bookings subject to availability at the time of booking.
